FDA Advanced Photography

As of April 2021 we learned that Photoshop can't edit .RAW files directly without losing information. The information is lost on the conversion from cameraRAW to Photoshop but it is preserved on the original .RAW file that was saved previously.      The difference isn't so huge when analyzing  the photoshopped images from a regular laptop monitor or a phone screen per se, however, for printing purposes or bigger scale viewings the loss of information is noticeable.     To maintain the information we were advised to utilize a workflow that incorporates opening a .RAW file as a smart object and going back and forth between cameraRAW and Photoshop as long as we save the .RAW file. The same could be done with Lightroom Classic and as long as we save the psb filed (smart object file) it will be shown on the Lightroom Catalog and the information will not be lost.     Not only that but we also learned how to organize pictures o...

Dance Film Blog Tony Barros

Who knew a dance film could be filled with so many set backs? Actors getting deported, dancers injuring themselves riding a bicycle under the influence on a Friday night, dancers giving up on you a day before shoot? If there is one thing I learned from this dance film is how resilient I was... well if it weren't for the words of encouragement from the lovely tutors at UCA I would have surely given up after the 4th set back. Plan A - A twelve minute dance film that would include Salsa, Kizomba, Hip Hop and Afrohouse styles of dance. A love story about two innocent birds that meet in a club and are too scared to delve into the animalistic vibes that the club presents to them. Will they or will they not fall in love with each other? Plan B - A story about a rapstar being too accessible and taken advantage of by his peers and even random people that recognize him. Once knocked down he learns to be a bit more selfish and focus on himself thus involuntarily inviting people to follow him...

Dance Film Homework

I have chosen 2 moving image projects to convey the feeling I want to portray on my dance film for FDA. Links: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRr6e27CVqs&ab_channel=KaytranadaVEVO - Kaytranada - Need It https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPUCAYU-83Q&ab_channel=SanFranciscoDanceFilmFestival - In The Space Between Critical Review(s) 1. Kaytranada's "Need It" An experimental take on black on black crime and how third parties find profit from condoning such behavior through various art forms. The lyrics, written by Masego, Kaytranada and their respective teams for Kaytranada's critically acclaimed album "Bubba", try to portray that the black youth of today find confusion on the terms of 'hero' and 'villain' by looking at such events as black or white, not in the skin colour but on the simplicity we attribute to the existence of racism socially and systematically. Masego tries to imply that the law "is not our villain" and that ...

STUDIO SHOOT PRODUCING TONY BARROS

As of COVID-19 university has been a difficult operation in terms working abroad. We were asked to do various projects with different themes and unfortunately one of our projects has not come to fruition as of yet - our first studio shoot for FDA's  second year. We were tasked as a group to write, produce and direct a short to our liking with the help of our wonderful tutors Anne Parisio and Rosie Gunn. Although we didn't manage to produce work based on our studio shoot we were tasked with developing a production pack to ensure we were prepared (are prepared) in case we do eventually possess the chance to produce and shoot a short film to our liking. Our story was based on mental health during the New Year's in the new millenia. Our protagonist is a white male that is mentally disturbed whilst trying to overcome the obstacles presented to him during the passage of a new decade and millenia stemming from 1999 to 2000. Our protagonist suffers from not only anxiety but also p...

TONY BARROS FDA MAPS AND NETWORKS

Image
For my first project of my second year of university I was assigned the theme of maps & networks during the briefing with the intention of creating something that is connected with the title of the module. Having taken the assignment quite literally as you can imagine I carefully searched the meaning of the words "maps" and "networks" even variations of the words such as synonyms or even verbs like "networking" and what these could mean not only in the dictionary but also in this day and age of technology. Having spent a long time trying to come up with ideas I just couldn't come up with anything. Although I had already implanted in my mind what I wanted to improve on this time around in terms of production and post production, I still had no idea what I was going to do. I have this friend of mine who will video call me at least 20 times a day. Do I enjoy video calling? Sure. Do I find it necessary? No, unless we are in a distant country. The way ...
